The "fourth" Range Rover LWB is an exclusive car for those who do not want to change even to luxury sedans, preferring to look at the world through the window of an SUV.

The public debut of the SUV, which stretched more than 200 mm in comparison with the standard "brother", took place in November 2013 (at the International Los Angeles Auto Show), but it only reached the Russian market in April 2014.

In October 2017, the British demonstrated an updated version of their long-wheelbase "brainchild" - they tweaked the exterior, improved the interior, added new options and supplemented the range with a hybrid modification.

Externally, the Land Rover Range Rover LWB is virtually indistinguishable from a standard SUV. The car gives out only a special color of the side mirrors, an almost inconspicuous nameplate "L" on the decorative lining of the front doors and an increased length of the body.

The "stretched" version of the SUV reaches 5200 mm in length, 2073 mm in width, and 1869 mm in height. The center distance is 3120 mm at the five-door, and its ground clearance ranges from 228 to 330 mm, depending on the position of the air suspension.

The LWB's front-end configuration is broadly similar to that of a regular Range Rover.

But there are noticeable changes here "in the area of the rear sofa" - due to the growth of the wheelbase, this car offers an increased margin of space "in the legs" for rear passengers. In addition, the standard “sofa” can be replaced by two “Executive Class” seats, which have 18 electrical options, as well as a 17-degree backrest (instead of 9 degrees for the “standard Range Rover”).

We also add that the right rear passenger has at his disposal a special remote control with which he can adjust the position of the front right seat, thereby increasing the free space in the legs and knees.

The fourth-generation long-wheelbase Range Rover is equipped with the same powertrains as its base brother - V-shaped six- and eight-cylinder turbo engines:

  • The gasoline part includes 3.0 and 5.0 liter engines developing 340 and 525 horsepower (450 and 625 Nm of torque, respectively).
  • The diesel palette combines 3.0 and 4.4 liter units: the former generates 249 hp. and 600 Nm of peak thrust, and the second - 339 hp. and 700 Nm.
  • In addition, a hybrid drive is installed on the SUV: it includes a 300-horsepower petrol "four" with a volume of 2.0 liters, an electric motor with a capacity of 116 hp. and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 13.1 kWh.

All motors are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission with a symmetrical center differential and range-change.

In terms of "driving" characteristics, the SUV completely repeats the usual "brother".

Based on the standard model, the extended Range Rover LWB borrows from it and the chassis system. The supporting body of the SUV, made mainly of aluminum and adding only 80 kg of weight (2240 kg in the base), is supported by an independent suspension based on pneumatic elements with electronic adaptive control, which allows you to adjust the rigidity depending on the quality of the road surface.

The car is equipped with an electric power steering and adjustable effort, as well as ventilated disc brakes on all wheels with ABS, EBD and other modern technologies.

In the Russian market, Range Rover LWB 2017-2018 can be purchased in three trim levels - "Vogue", "Vogue SE" and "Autobiography". For the basic version, dealers ask for at least 7,502,000 rubles, and for the most "fancy" - from 9,291,000 rubles. In terms of equipment, the "Long British" almost completely repeats the similar equipment levels of a standard SUV.
