Isuzu D-Max is a rear- or all-wheel drive mid-size pickup truck, available in three body modifications: with a single, one-and-a-half or double cabins ... A car that combines an attractive design, high cargo capacity and excellent off-road potential, is addressed primarily to well-supported adult men who want to acquire a truly "multipurpose vehicle" - suitable for daily use, and for outdoor activities, and for the transport of goods ...

The next, third in a row, generation of the mid-size "truck" Isuzu D-Max was presented to the world community on October 11, 2019 as part of a special event held in Thailand (where, by the way, the main production facilities of the model are located), and at the same time they were presented and "proletarian" versions with a short three-seater cab, and "rich" four-door options.

After the "reincarnation", the pickup retained the general exterior style and frame structure, but at the same time it was seriously transformed technically, having moved to a new platform and received modernized power units, dropped extra pounds, tried on a completely redrawn interior, added in cross-country ability and acquired atypical options for its class.

The "third" Isuzu D-Max looks attractive, modern and harmonious, and regardless of the version, - an embittered front end with frowned headlights, a large "hexagon" of the radiator grille and a raised bumper, a characteristic silhouette with a passenger cabin and a separate cargo platform, an unpretentious stern with vertically oriented lights, tailgate and compact bumper.

Yes, in the exterior of the "truck" you will not find bright design solutions, as well as contradictory elements.

Size and weight

This is a mid-size pickup truck with corresponding outer dimensions: its length is 5020-5285 mm, width - 1810-1870 mm (excluding side mirrors), height - 1690-1790 mm. The distance between the front and rear wheelsets is 3125 mm for the car, and its ground clearance is 190-220 mm (this figure is influenced by a number of points).

The curb weight of the "Japanese" varies from 1510 to 2020 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The interior decoration of the Isuzu D-Max of the third generation is tailored according to modern patterns, and there is not even a hint of utility here (at least in the "top" versions) - a multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke rim, a nice "toolbox" with two analog scales and "prescribed "Between them is a colored board of the on-board computer, a beautiful center console with a 7- or 9-inch touchscreen of the media center and a stylish air conditioning unit.

However, it is worth noting that the decoration of the basic versions is designed without such an entourage - there are no color screens, and the control of the "microclimate" is much simpler. In versions with a single cab, the interior of a mid-size pickup truck meets its inhabitants with unpretentious seats with a poorly developed side profile, but with solid adjustment intervals and heating. "One and a half" versions are complemented by a "bench" (there is no other way to name the second row here), while the variants with a double cabin "sport" a really comfortable rear sofa that can accommodate even three adult passengers.

Carrying capacity and permeability

The arsenal of the "third" Isuzu D-Max includes an onboard platform with the following internal dimensions: length - from 1495 to 2330 mm, depending on the modification, width - from 1530 to 1590 mm, side height - from 465 to 490 mm. At the same time, a car can carry about a ton of luggage at a time.

It is worth noting that in addition to good cargo capabilities, the pickup also has excellent cross-country ability - for example, its maximum ford depth is 800 mm.

Specifications

For Isuzu D-Max of the third incarnation, two four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines are offered with a common rail fuel injection system and a 16-valve timing architecture:

  • The base variant is a 1.9-liter unit that generates 150 horsepower at 3800 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1800-2600 rpm.
  • "Top" versions are "armed" with a 3.0-liter engine producing 190 hp. at 3600 rpm and 450 Nm of peak thrust at 1600-2600 rpm.

By default, both engines work jointly with a 6-speed manual transmission and drive wheels of the rear axle, however, as an option, they can be docked with a 6-band Aisin “robot” and an all-wheel drive transmission of the Part-Time type with a rigidly connected front axle and electromagnetic locking of the rear differential.

Design features

At the heart of the third generation Isuzu D-Max is the fresh Isuzu Dynamic Drive platform, which implies the presence of a frame body structure with additional transverse reinforcements, in the power structure of which high-strength (they account for 46%) and ultra-high-strength steels are widely used.

On the front axle of the car there is an independent spring suspension on double levers, and on the rear axle there is a dependent system with a continuous axle suspended by means of springs.

By default, the pickup is equipped with a hydraulic power assisted rack and pinion steering. All wheels of the "truck" are equipped with disc brakes, and in front - ventilated 320-mm, "clamped" by two-piston calipers.

Options and prices

In the Russian market, the “third” Isuzu D-Max in 2021 can be purchased only with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel (in tandem with both “mechanics” and “automatic”) and an all-wheel drive transmission, but in two versions to choose from - with one and a half or double cab (Extended and Double, respectively).
