The second generation Ford Explorer hit the market in 1995. The car continued to be manufactured in the United States and Spain. The five-door version left the assembly line in 2001 with the advent of the third generation car, while the three-door version was produced until 2003 with a slightly redesigned appearance.

The "second" Ford Explorer is a mid-size SUV available in three or five door versions.

Its length varies from 4530 to 4813 mm, height - from 1800 to 1801 mm, width - from 1790 to 1874 mm. In the three-door version, the wheelbase is 2595 mm, and the ground clearance (clearance) is 230 mm, in the five-door modification, these figures are respectively equal to 2837 and 200 mm.

Compared to its predecessor, the choice of engines for the "second" Ford Explorer has significantly expanded. Three versions of atmospheric gasoline engines were installed on the SUV. The first is a 4.0-liter V6 with 160 horsepower, which develops a maximum thrust of 320 Nm at 2500 rpm. The second is a V-shaped "six" with a volume of 4.0 liters, giving out 208 "horses" and 350 Nm at 5200 rpm. The third is a 5.0-liter V8, the output of which reaches 218 forces and 395 Nm at 3200 rpm.
Three gearboxes were offered for engines - 5-speed "mechanics", 4- or 5-band "automatic". The SUV was supplied with three types of transmissions: plug-in Part-Time, constant Full-Time AWD and ControlTrac 4WD with several operating modes (rear, low gear, automatic).

The "second" Ford Explorer relies on an independent suspension with torsion bars on the wishbones, installed at the front, and a dependent scheme with semi-elliptical springs at the rear. Disc brakes on the front wheels and drum mechanisms on the rear are responsible for decelerating the SUV.

The advantages of the second generation Ford Explorer include a spacious interior, a huge luggage compartment, powerful engines, comfortable passenger accommodation, good cross-country ability, inexpensive spare parts and affordable service.
Disadvantages of the car are high fuel consumption, long waiting time for some parts and weak head light.
